West Ham agree £30m Harry Maguire transfer with Manchester United

West Ham United has successfully secured a deal to acquire the services of Manchester United's defender, Harry Maguire. According to a report from The Athletic, it was revealed on Monday that the London-based club had extended an offer of £30 million for Maguire's transfer. The proposition has now been confirmed as accepted. This move comes as West Ham, under the management of David Moyes, is actively pursuing new recruits following the lucrative sale of Declan Rice to Arsenal for a substantial £105 million. On the other side of the equation, Maguire is aspiring to rejuvenate his football career, having encountered a decline in his position within the squad hierarchy under the leadership of Erik ten Hag.

Having been limited to a mere 16 appearances in the previous Premier League season, the 30-year-old footballer found himself in fierce competition for a spot in the central defense lineup, with Lisandro Martinez, Raphael Varane, and Victor Lindelof often being favored choices.

Adding to his challenges, the England international also underwent the setback of losing his captaincy at Manchester United earlier in the summer.

Fresh insights from The Athletic shed light on Maguire's situation. Despite having extended his contract until 2025, he initially intended to stay at Old Trafford and fight for his position. Nonetheless, England's national team manager, Gareth Southgate, has subtly indicated that the lack of significant game time at United might impact Maguire's role on the international scene.

Having made a substantial move to Manchester United for £80 million in 2019 from Leicester, Maguire's current situation is set against the backdrop of the club's ongoing efforts to streamline their squad. This move comes as the club acquires new players like Andre Onana, Mason Mount, and Rasmus Hojlund during this summer's transfer window.

Meanwhile, West Ham's endeavors to strengthen their team have encountered a setback with their £30 million bid for Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay being turned down. On a more promising note, the London club seems poised to secure a successful £30 million deal for James Ward-Prowse from Southampton.
